Stotfold News November 2008 Issue

‘Children Learning Through Play’
Ooooo it is chilly. Winter is definitely on its way, but I am making the most of it and enjoying sitting in front of an open fire while tapping out my piece for the Stotfold News.
The Pippin children this month will be learning about transport and different forms of travel. We will be asking them to bring in their toys, pictures, photos and books related to road, air, sea and rail vehicles so that they can discuss and learn about these items in circle time.
This month is also Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night, Cracker Night and Fireworks Night. It celebrates the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot on the 5th November 1605 in which a number of Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. The children will be making pictures and other items associated with this event to display at Pippin and to take home to show their families.
We are very excited about our Annual Quiz Night, which is being held on Friday 14th November at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Road, Stotfold, 7.30pm for an 8pm start. The entry fee for the quiz is £14 for a team consisting of up to 6 members (which works out as only £2.50 per person), or £3 for individual quizzers/extra team members. The evening will include a raffle and maybe a silly game or two in order for us to raise some money for new equipment and toys for the children. To register your team’s details in advance, please email the committee, with your details (main contact’s name & number, number of members in your team and your team name). The evening is BYO (bring your own bottle), so come along and join in the fun.
For anyone who is starting to think that their little one would benefit from attending a pre-school, we hold Open Mornings every Monday morning during term time, to give you the chance to come and see us in action. This is a good opportunity to see how a pre-school works and meet some of the staff before deciding where to register your little one when they are ready to start at pre-school. Please feel free to drop in and visit us.
On Monday 17th November at 3.45pm, we have arranged for Tempest Photography to be at the Roecroft Centre. Straight after school, so take this opportunity to bring along your wee cherubs and have their pictures taken.
Finally, this month, I have been trying to find out when Pippin Pre-School was originally formed. We know two members of the Baptist Church formed it sometime in the 60s and that it became a committee run playgroup in 1981, but we are hoping that someone out there may be able to fill us in with a few more details. If you have any information, or were a former Pippin pupil, or staff, please send me, Cherrylynn Gibb, an email - I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for your interest in our pre-school and we look forward to sharing more of our news with you again next month.
